Our values: Love, Hope, Faith, Wisdom and Kindness
Our aims, ethos and values are at the heart of everything we do at Elsenham C. of E. Primary School. We want every child to feel that they belong, that they are valued and that they have the confidence and curiosity to become a learner for life.
Elsenham C. of E. Primary School is a two-form entry primary school at the heart of the village of Elsenham, close to the market town of Bishop’s Stortford. Children join us in Reception at the age of four and remain with us until the end of Year 6. During those important years, we want them to grow not only academically but socially, emotionally and personally.
We are proud to be a community school in every sense. Our relationships with families, our church and the wider village are an important part of school life. We want our children to understand that they are part of something bigger than themselves and to develop a strong sense of belonging, responsibility and pride in the community around them.
We have high expectations for every child and seek to provide an environment where children are happy, safe, challenged and excited to learn. Through excellent teaching, strong relationships and a rich range of experiences, we encourage children to ask questions, think for themselves, persevere when things are difficult and recognise that making mistakes is an important part of learning.
Our ambition extends far beyond achieving strong academic outcomes. We want to develop learners for life: children who are curious about the world, resilient when faced with challenges, confident in expressing their ideas and courageous enough to embrace new opportunities. Every child at Elsenham is unique, with their own talents, interests and strengths, and it is our responsibility to help them discover and develop these.
Partnership with families is fundamental to achieving this. We believe children thrive when school and home work together, sharing high expectations and a common ambition for every child. We value the contribution our parents and carers make to school life and want families to feel that they are active members of the Elsenham community.
Our broad and ambitious curriculum provides children with opportunities to achieve academically while also discovering new interests, developing their creativity and experiencing success in many different ways. Learning extends beyond the classroom through sport, music, performance, enrichment, clubs, trips and opportunities to contribute to school and village life.
Ultimately, we want every child who leaves Elsenham to do so as a confident, kind and independent young person: proud of who they are, ambitious about what they can achieve and equipped with the knowledge, skills and values to make a positive contribution to their community and the wider world.
At Elsenham, education is not simply preparation for the next year group or the next school. It is about developing the foundations for a lifetime of learning, opportunity and contribution.
