Silver Birch - Year 2
Welcome to Silver Birch - Year 2!
Autumn Term
Settling in to Silver Birch
We are incredibly proud of the children in Silver Birch for settling in to Year 2 so happily and confidently. We have loved to see children branching out and developing friendships with children that have not been in their class before, and seeing new pupils being welcomed with open arms.
The children have enjoyed accessing continuous provision activities in both the indoor and outdoor spaces (See photos below of some of the activities on offer!) and have been hard at work during lesson times too.
P.E. and Forest School
It has been wonderful to gain some curriculum time back now that pupils arrive at school wearing their P.E. Kit (Changing clothes can take a large chunk of time normally!) and this has meant we have spent more time practising key skills such as throwing, catching and passing balls. We have one indoor and one outdoor P.E. Session per week, focusing this half term on ball skills.
Forest School is always our favourite time of the week. One element of our sessions each week is 'Forest School Maths', but the majority of our time is exploratory, whereby the children learn about nature, their surroundings, safety and team work. Improved wellbeing and having fun are always on the agenda in Forest School.
Visit from a princess
Our English focus has been the traditional tale of 'Rapunzel'. The children have loved listening to different versions of the text, studying the different characters and writing descriptions using expanded noun phrases.
The children were speechless (although there were some squeals of delight!) when they saw the real Rapunzel arrive at our classroom door! Rapunzel answered questions from the children about her life and character, and also taught the children a song and dance. What an amazing and memorable experience to start off our first topic!
